Dan, BB10, MySpace: Just when you think you’re out…

Posted on Monday, November 17th, 2008 at 11:17 am by spamgirl

“Hey I just wanted to keep everyone updated, it has been a while!

I took a few weeks off of teaching at St. Mary’s to decompress from the house, spend some time with my family and friends (some old friends and some new friends ;) ) and I have really been enjoying my experience. The response is still overwhelming and I really appreciate all of the continued support. (more…)

Article: The Dan Gheesling Interview

Posted on Wednesday, October 22nd, 2008 at 9:33 pm by spamgirl

“October 22, 2008 - Dan Gheesling has been a big fan of the hit CBS reality show “Big Brother” since he was a sophomore in high school. Now, he is the show’s new champion. The 25-year-old biology and physical education teacher and assistant football coach at Orchard Lake St. Mary’s High School was crowned the winner of “Big Brother 10″ on Sept. 16, beating out 12 other competitors and winning the grand prize of a half-million dollars. Before entering the “Big Brother” house, Dan graduated from Michigan State University with a bachelor’s degree in business and a master’s degree in kinesiology and also served as a graduate assistant coach for the Spartans in 2005 and 2006. He also interned with the Detroit Lions. He began teaching at St. Mary’s in 2007 until he was finally called to the show this summer after numerous submissions. Beginning on July 13, an average of 6 million viewers a week tuned in to watch Dan and his housemates compete in crazy competitions ranging from a hockey slapshot game to dicing onions and sliding them into a box to help fight off weekly eliminations from the house. Dan also had to survive conflicts with his roommates and somehow managed to keep his cool, knowing that not only his family and friends, but his fellow St. Mary’s staff and students were watching. In the end, Dan earned the respect of his housemates and he was rewarded with a unanimous vote in his favor in the finale. Since the show, Dan is back with the Eaglets football team and is looking forward to returning to teaching at St. Mary’s and is still dating his girlfriend, Monica. He is also pondering other opportunities that are being offered to him and keeps a MySpace page to keep “Big Brother” fans up to date. Dan recently spoke with the Spinal Column Newsweekly about his experience on the show and his plans for his winnings.”

Article: Dearborn man returns home after winning ‘Big Brother 10′

Posted on Wednesday, October 8th, 2008 at 4:18 pm by spamgirl

“Dearborn - Dan Gheesling knew Big Brother was watching him for 71 days, but in the back of his mind, he was also acutely aware of the fact his students from St. Mary’s Preparatory School in Orchard Lake were watching, too. So he, in turn, kept his cool in the house.

“What you saw on Big Brother was an accurate representation of me,” Gheesling said.

Dan’s mother, Sue Gheesling, watched the show religiously and followed updates on the Internet with her family.”

Dan, BB10, MySpace: Never say die

Posted on Wednesday, October 8th, 2008 at 4:17 pm by spamgirl

“Alright, so I may have left you hanging a little longer than expected, hahaha. Things have been very hectic between getting back to “real-life” and decompressing from the Big Brother house. It has definitely been an adjustment, but all is going well. I appreciate all the fan support, it is STILL overwhelming to have people come up to me in public, but if I can put a smile on someone’s face I will do my best to do so!

I have been getting a lot of offers to do everything under the sun, from appearances, to hosting, to things you wouldn’t believe! I am taking time to sort through these things and there are some very interesting deals in progress (can’t talk about them, yet!). I’ve had a chance to do some things around here in Michigan, which has been a blast. Thanks to WRIF for having me on the air again, Detroit Metromix for the invite to the Jay-Z After Party, Mooretosay.com, the Dearborn Press and Guide, C & G News, and the MSU Alumni Magazine. The support back in Michigan has been great and it is good to be home!

I am still working through all of the e-mails and letters that were sent to me, thank you to all the fans for sending them, you all are the best!

Speaking of fans, here are the two most prevalent questions that I get all the time so let me answer them:

1) How do I get on Big Brother? Do you have any advice for my audition tape?

My advice is to be yourself in the audition tape and bring a lot of energy! My path to Big Brother was a long and drawn out one, over a few years. A lot of the Big Brother casting has to do with timing, so if you don’t make it the first time, don’t give up! Also, do not try to do what I did and give the producers what they want to hear! Just be yourself and roll the dice!

2) How can I get an autograph?

Thanks for being patient with this question! If you would like an autograph, send a self addressed, stamped envelope, ALONG with a note saying who to personalize the autograph to (I will not respond to non-personalized autographs, sorry) the following address:

Dan Gheesling
ATTN: Autographs
PO Box 2099
Dearborn, MI 48123

As far as the episodes go, I have only had a chance to watch the first few. It is strange seeing what we lived through, edited with background music, and diary room sessions, but it is hilarious nonetheless.

Memphis and are doing an interview together this Wednesday night in Seattle (10/6/08) with Real Player at 9:00 PM EST – tune in to see the Renegades back in action. You will be able to see the Official Renegade gear for the first time!

The Official Renegade Gear launch is this Wednesday! Keep an eye out for the website.

Once again, thanks to all my family, friends, and fans for all the support since I have been out of the house – I truly appreciate it.

Take care,
Dan

Now it’s time to play a game…if you want a shot at winning the last remaining Renegade Tye-Dye shirt I made inside the Big Brother house, all you have to do is go to my favorite website to find out the details. What is my favorite website? You want me to give you the web address? The only thing I can tell you is that it “Is a Car Riot.”

Good Luck!”

Article: Gheesling talks about Big Brother victory.

Posted on Thursday, October 2nd, 2008 at 11:15 am by spamgirl

“He entered the house with drums banging and guns blazing.

He pronounced his religious beliefs, as a Catholic high school teacher, in perfect accord with his political viewpoint, saying he would leave the United States if Hillary Clinton was ever elected president.

When the country was first introduced to Dearborn resident and 2001 Divine Child grad Dan Gheesling, opinions of him ranged somewhere between arrogant and cocky, as if there was much difference.”

Article: Nice guys finish first

Posted on Saturday, September 27th, 2008 at 8:06 pm by spamgirl

“Over the course of the past three months, I have received countless emails, Myspace messages, letters, and message-board questions that often times I leave unanswered. Some of the questions I truly want to answer and others…well…not so much. However, I figure at this point in the game, if you truly want the answers, you’ll be able to find them here (Some of you are all star lurkers, I tell ya.).

The finale and the wrap party and my entire stay in California was surreal. Many people have asked about the actual finale show. And to be honest, I don’t remember. After we put on the Renegade bandanas, everything seems to be a blur. Insert image of April’s “Dan” key being pulled…and more blur. The whole concept that my little brother WON “Big Brother 10” by a unanimous vote still hasn’t sunk in. For any of us.”

Article: Dan watched past Big Brothers to prepare

Posted on Tuesday, September 23rd, 2008 at 2:35 pm by spamgirl

““The good thing about ‘Big Brother’ is a lot of the episodes are on the Internet, right on the CBS web site, and I would go back and watch a season at a time. Make no bones about it, it wasn’t easy. Who wants to sit in front of a computer 30 hours and study? I didn’t do it 30 hours at a time, but I’d do 5 hours here, 5 hours there,” he said. He did that during the casting process, because he only had “about two days” between being told he was officially chosen and leaving for the show.”

“Dan Gheesling was awarded the $500,000 Grand Prize for winning the 10th season of CBS’ Big Brother. “To All Big Brother Fans, Dan Fans, & Renegade Fans:

Thank you so much for all of your support! All of the support, thank you notes, and encouragement is very overwhelming for me and totally unexpected. When I was trapped in the house I was not sure anyone would like me, but I appreciate all of the support. (more…)

Interview: ‘Big Brother’ champ Dan Gheesling talks about his victory

Posted on Friday, September 19th, 2008 at 10:22 am by spamgirl

“It seemed unlikely to succeed at first, but in the end, Dan Gheesling and Robert “Memphis” Garrett’s two-man “Renegades” alliance managed to outmaneuver the rest of Big Brother 10’s houseguests and make it all the way to the competition’s live Tuesday night finale.

Once they were there, Big Brother 10’s seven-person jury voted to award Dan the season’s $500,000 grand prize via a 7-0 vote — a move that made the 24-year-old Catholic high school teacher from Dearborn, MI the long-running reality show’s first-ever unanimous winner.

On Wednesday, Dan talked to Reality TV World about how he managed to recover from a pretty shaky start in the game, what he believes his key moves were, how he dealt with being suspected of being America’s Player, why he thinks he won the jury vote unanimously, and what he plans to do with the money.”
