The third time was the charm for Kail Harbick, a 37-year-old real estate broker from McKenzie Bridge, who has been picked as one of 14 contestants slated to appear on the CBS reality show “Big Brother 8.” The program debuts at 8 p.m. Thursday.

“She has been a fan of the show forever and thought it would be real fun to go in and try and win,” said Harbick’s husband, Darin.

Together, the couple own the Historical Holiday Farm Resort, Harbick’s Country Store, Harbick’s Country Inn and Takoda’s Restaurant. Kail Harbick applied for the show twice before but was turned down. The winner of the reality game show will take home $500,000.

“Right now, she’s got a one in 14 chance,” Darin Harbick said.

“Those are better odds than the lottery.”

The news of Harbick’s selection appeared in the entertainment news source Variety. She was identified as the only married member of the cast. This year’s version of the program will feature an “Alice in Wonderland” theme and promises to be more interactive than previous editions.

One unnamed contestant will be asked to perform tasks that are decided by the viewing public.

During the show, cast members are sequestered on a Los Angeles studio set and allowed no contact with family members or the outside world.

Players compete against one another in contests to see who can last the longest.

At intervals, players are voted out.

Darin Harbick said his wife’s business skills would increase her chances of success on the show.

“She didn’t think she could do `Survivor,’ she didn’t think she could do `Amazing Race,’ but she thought this could be something she could have a chance at,” he said.

The Harbicks, who met at McKenzie High School, have three children and have been married for 17 years. Darin Harbick plans to screen “Big Brother 8″ on TV sets at the family’s two restaurants.

“They can put whatever spin they want on each person,” he said. “Hopefully she gets portrayed the way she is, which is pretty fun and good.”

If Kail Harbick takes home “Big Brother’s” big prize, don’t expect to see her in a new car. She plans to use the money to pay down business debts, her husband said. “

Press Release: CBS REVEALS THE IDENTITIES OF THE 14 NEW HOUSEGUESTS COMPETING IN "BIG BROTHER 8"

Posted on Thursday, June 28th, 2007 at 4:24 pm by anon

Eighth Installment Premieres Thursday, July 5th
Julie Chen Returns As Host
All New “Big Brother 8″ Creative Twist Revealed
New Interactive Twist That Will Give Viewers The Most Control They’ve Ever Had
In The Big Brother House Revealed

CBS announced today the identities of the 14 Houseguests who will compete in BIG BROTHER 8, as well as the new creative twist that will play out during the summer broadcasts.

As always, BIG BROTHER Houseguests should expect the unexpected. This season’s twist will shock and most likely change the way some houseguests would have played the game had certain people not walked through the door.

On premiere night, Thursday, July 5 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT), Houseguests will learn that some of them will be sharing the house with an enemy, a rival or someone with whom they have unfinished business — in short, someone from their past who they had hoped never to see again or someone with whom there is an extreme amount of tension.

In addition to the surprise twist of an unwelcome person from their past, the premiere episode will reveal a new interactive element that will give viewers the most control they’ve ever had over someone in the BIG BROTHER house. For the first time…America is in the house.

One participant has been selected to be “America’s Player.” At the conclusion of every episode, beginning Sunday, July 8 (8:00-9:00 ET/PT), a question will be asked of viewers where they will vote on an important assignment that “America’s Player” must complete. It could be a strategic move or a personal action. They must attempt to do what viewers request, including voting out a specific Houseguest. And, they can never tell anyone in the house that they are working on behalf of the viewers. But, they need to be careful…just like their fellow Houseguests, they can be voted out at any time. If “America’s Player” successfully accomplishes these assignments, they will be financially rewarded.Viewers will be able to vote on cbs.com or via text messaging on a mobile phone and will choose from multiple choice answers on each question. The prevailing vote must be completed by “America’s Player” in order for him or her to be rewarded.

BIG BROTHER follows a group of people living together in a house outfitted with dozens of cameras and microphones recording their every move 24 hours a day. One by one, the Houseguests will vote each other out of the house. At the end of three months, the last remaining Houseguest will receive the grand prize of $500,000.

BIG BROTHER 8 debuts Thursday, July 5 (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. Following the premiere, BIG BROTHER 8 will be broadcast three nights weekly, on Sundays (8:00-9:00 PM, ET/PT), Tuesdays (9:00-10:00 PM, ET/PT) and the live eviction show, hosted by Julie Chen, on Thursdays (8:00-9:00 PM live ET/delayed PT).

Article: Rivals Will Clash In "Big Brother 8"

Posted on Thursday, June 28th, 2007 at 2:48 pm by anon

“Rivals Will Clash In “Big Brother 8″
This Season’s Show Will Also Allow Viewers To Have A Role

(CBS) Each year the houseguests on “Big Brother” encounter a different twist. This year the hit reality show will be taking rivalries to new heights, when some contestants find themselves living under the same roof with their sworn enemies.

“Big Brother” host and The Early Show co-anchor Julie Chen previewed the show’s eighth season, which premieres next week.

Executive Producer Alison Grodner described this year’s wild plotline: “What’s going to happen on opening night [is that] some of the houseguests are going to find out that they will be locked in this house with the last person they’d ever want to see walk through that door,” she said.

Another change for “Big Brother” this summer will be the viewers’ involvement. A game element called “America’s Player” will give the houseguests opportunities to win money if they perform actions desired by those watching at home. For example, a player might be asked to flirt with someone specific or vote someone out of the house.

This year’s group of 14 men and women is an eclectic group. Each hope they will leave the “Big Brother” house as the winner and $500,000 richer.

The Houseguests:

- Amber, 27, a cocktail waitress at Caesar’s Palace in Las Vegas, believes she can weasel her way with anyone. “People just tend to love me. And I’m very charming. And I’m a little weasel and you don’t even know it,” she said. Amber is separated.

- Nick, 25, a former professional football player from Kimball, Minn., thinks his charming ways will give him an edge during the competition. He said, “I’m a charmer with the ladies. That’s going to play into my benefit with all the ladies in the house.” Nick is single.

- Jen, 23, a bikini model and nanny from Beverly Hills, Calif., says she is also a computer nerd. Jen is single.

- Dick, 44, a bar manager from Los Angeles, Calif., is the oldest guest in the house. “Evil Dick,” as he refers to himself, considers himself a legit competitor because of his ways with women. “Manipulating girls is kind of a way of life for me,” he said. Dick is single.

- Jessica, 21, a college student from Haysville, Kan., is a devoted friend until you cross her. She said, “I’m loyal until you backstab me, and then I’m your worst enemy, so watch out,” she warned. Jessica is single.

- Joe, 23, a receptionist from Chicago, is “over the top,” according to Grodner. She added, “And he is smart, and he is evil.” Joe, who is 6 feet 4 and single, joked, “What’s gay and has two thumbs?” when he pointed to himself during the guest introductions.

- Kail, 37, a business owner from McKenzie Bridge, Ore., is married and a mother. Grodner said, “She is probably more conservative than some of the people that we’ve had on our show before, which I think is very interesting.”

- Jameka, 28, a school counselor from Waldorf, Md., isn’t participating in “Big Brother” solely to win the grand prize. She said, “I have been around black people the majority of my life, 99 percent. So it’ll be interesting.” Jameka is single.

- Eric, 27, a talent management assistant from New York, will lull his housemates into becoming his friends and then backstab some of them. He said, “I have a charisma that will rally people behind me. And when I start cutting people’s throats, they’ll never see it coming.” Eric is single.

- Zach, 30, a graphic designer from Burbank, Calif., is originally from Tallahassee, Fla., and attended Florida State University. He is single.

- Danielle, 20, a Hooters waitress from Huntington Beach, Calif., is single.

- Mike, 26, a painting contractor from Three Lakes, Wis., is single.

- Dustin, 22, a salesman from Chicago, thinks his occupation will aid him on “Big Brother.” He said, “I am a salesman. So I’m pretty good at selling things. Including myself. To complete strangers.” Dustin is single.

- Carol, 21, a student from Lawrence, Kan., is single.
