EA AND ENDEMOL ANNOUNCE CREATIVE PARTNERSHIP FOR VIRTUAL ME
CANNES, FRANCE, – April 16, 2007 – Electronic Arts (NASDAQ: ERTS), the world’s leading interactive entertainment software company, and the Endemol group, a global leader in television and other audiovisual entertainment, today announced a creative partnership for the development of Virtual Me, a new digital entertainment concept that bridges the divide between traditional TV and videogames. The all-new online offering is being prepared to debut in Endemol’s top-rated Big Brother.
Virtual Me combines cutting edge avatar creation technology from EA with popular TV formats from Endemol to give consumers a breakthrough way to meet, compete and socialize in online digital worlds. Avatar creation takes a leap forward with a high performing, easy-to-use tool that creates astonishingly life-like cyber-clones, with uniquely customized appearances and identities.
Want to be a pop star? A movie star? An action star? Virtual Me offers players the chance to participate in virtual versions of TV talent shows like Fame Academy and Operacion Triunfo, game shows like Deal Or No Deal and 1 vs 100 and to form real relationships with other virtual avatars on the web. VirtualMe.com, the home of the Virtual Me avatar creation system, will launch in the coming months.
Peter Bazalgette, Chief Creative Officer, Endemol comments: “We’re told that people are starting to spend more time online than they are watching TV. Both markets are now important and this has huge implications for content creators. Our opportunity with Electronic Arts is to develop ideas that fully embrace the way people are consuming entertainment today.”

“I’d never tried out for a reality TV show before… it wasn’t what I was expecting.
Last night I tried out for Season 8 of CBS’s Big Brother. I wasn’t prepared. In fact, I didn’t even learn about the auditions until yesterday morning when my morning radio show co-host, Cindy Swanson told me about it. I thought it’d just be something fun to do. It was… but it was a lot of work as well.
Just the application to be on the show was daunting. My hand ached as I was wrote down the answers to questions about how I’d react in a house with twelve other people, what makes me angry, what items I’d bring with me into the house if it were possible, what my positions were regarding religion and politics, etc.
It took me an hour and a half just to fill out the section asking about my chest size, jacket size, waist line, inseam, and shoe size. I don’t know any of that stuff; my bride does all of the shopping at our house, including clothes. But Robin wasn’t at home, so I had to do some measuring of myself on my own. Do you know how difficult it is to measure waist or chest size with a wooden ruler? My waist is either 26 inches, or 63… I had some conflicting measurements. And as for chest size, uh… I don’t know. I debated writing, “approximately the size of a small barrel. Not so large as a beer keg, but much larger than a barrel of monkeys.” I settled for writing, “Fifteen, maybe?”"

“IF you want to appear in the eighth season of “Big Brother,” prepare to have your personal life subjected to an FBI-like investigation. In its casting call for potential contestants in this week’s Backstage, producers of the CBS reality show warn: “Note: [We] will conduct civil, criminal, financial, driver history and any other types of background checks deemed necessary.” But they do want applicants to be “fun, outgoing, energetic – ‘characters’ a must.’ ” “

“Yesterday was Big Brother day, and we had a disappointing turnout of only 39 people during the whole 6-1/2 hour event. I guess I was expecting somewhere in the neighborhood of 200, but what should I have expected on a Tuesday? We did have a few people from the Dallas area who came up to audition, as well as one guy from Houston who seems to be a professional reality show auditioner. He had a whole binder containing glossy photos of himself and copies of his applications from previous shows/seasons.”

“Some tips he offers to those auditioning:
People shouldn’t rely on reality TV to become a star. Boswell said it
s been a learning process for him and it’s taken at least five years to see a profit from his work.
“Reality folks have a lot to prove in this business,” Boswell said. “If you think you’re automatically going to the top with a reality show, you’ve got another thing coming.”
Set yourself apart. “You only get to talk for two minutes” at the casting call, Boswell said. “If you’re not unique or different in some way, forget it. You’re out the door.”
