“Where is reality TV going in Australia in 2004? I hope that this will let you know the majority of the shows that we will be having (or might be having) over the next year. I’ll let you know which ones are confirmed, unconfirmed and complete and utter conjecture :) The sources for this information are TV ads for new shows, the Australian network webpages, newspapers, TV Week (a wealth of knowledge) and a healthy dose of information from wherever I could glean it. ”

Article: German Big Brother to run for a year

Posted on Tuesday, January 27th, 2004 at 8:04 pm by admin

The maker’s of the German version of Big Brother are set to push the contest to a new level by extending the time spent in the house to a year. The fifth series of the German show, which has had audiences in the past gripped with lesbian kissing and erotic scenes in the pool, is set to start on March 1 and carry on for a year, say Endemol.

Contestants are battling it out for one million euros, the equivalent of £690,000.

The participants will also be separated into three different housing units – including a survival camp, a luxury villa and an average flat.

All of the units will be set up in Cologne. Where each candidate will be placed depends on their “social status”, said Endemol

Article: Unions Aim to Share in the Success of Reality TV

Posted on Monday, January 26th, 2004 at 1:31 pm by anon

“REALITY television shows like “Fear Factor,” “Big Brother” and “The Bachelor” have crossed over from sideshow entertainment to network television’s main event. But their success has caught the attention of more than advertisers and disgusted critics. Hollywood’s unions are showing an interest, too.

The International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, which includes the International Cinematographers Guild and the Motion Picture Editors Guild, is trying to unionize reality shows that are shown by the networks, as well as gritty documentary-style cable shows like “Trauma: Life in the ER.”

Arguing that those who work on unscripted programs should receive health insurance, pensions, overtime pay and other benefits, the alliance has unionized “Big Brother,” which is produced by Endemol USA, a unit of Telefonica S.A, and is in negotiations with “Blind Date” and “Fifth Wheel,” produced by Renegade 83. ”

“Ali was on her way home from Pittsburgh yesterday when she hit black ice. She was driving her father’s new SUV which rolled. If she had not been wearing her seatbelt, the sate trooper told us she would have been killed as the contents of the car were thrown out when the windows shattered. She is resting at home after being treated at our ER.” – Alison’s Mom, Melinda

“Michelle Maradie

It’s no coincidence that when Boca Raton’s Michelle Maradie made her appearance on the reality television series ‘Big Brother’ this season, the ratings skyrocketed.

As the youngest cast member, 20-year-old Michelle lit up the screen with her long blond locks and charming demeanor, and the day she was ‘voted off’ was a disappointment not only for her, but America as well.

The Florida State University sophomore gets her kicks on the soccer field, and also loves cats, sushi, and hanging out with friends, but those who know her well say Michelle’s favorite pastime is going out on the town.

Though she’s undecided about whether to major in business or communications, Michelle says that an acting career is something she’d like to pursue after landing her role on ‘Big Brother.’”
